Since 1955, the Kurtsan has been a leader in creating sustainable solutions across sectors that benefit human health while caring deeply for our planet and our society. The six subcategories of social impact, diversity, environment, ethics, management, and quality comprise Kurtsan's notion of sustainability.
Founded in 1993, Kurtsan Foundation promotes the belief that science and art are the finest foundations for elevating and educating humanity while fostering social and cultural advancement. With this belief, we sponsor fifteen to thirty prospective students each year, carefully selecting high-caliber students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue higher education. We hope that our over one thousand alumni will strive to create meaningful change in the world.
For a better society, we strive to cultivate the importance of cooperation among its members. Hence as Kurtsan we strive to offer various forms of support especially in times of local catastrophes like earthquakes, forest fires, mining accidents etc.
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. At Kurtsan, we guarantee that women participate fully and productively and have equal opportunities to assume leadership roles at all levels of decision-making. This is evident in the ratio of our staff across the whole company.
Marine Plastic Pollution
Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues, as rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them. Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations. We, at Kurtsan, are rapidly taking steps to reduce plastic in our products and use marine-friendly alternatives to reduce the impact on the nature, such as using labels that are made out of ocean plastics or removing shrinks or extra plastic layerings from our finished products.
Groundwater Contamination
Groundwater contamination occurs when man-made products such as chemicals get into the groundwater and cause it to become unsafe and unfit for human use. In this field, Kurtsan complies with GMP and ISO 14001 standards, the top globally recognized standards in the field of waste disposal. However, we take further proactive steps and make further investments to assure we are not only compliant, but also visionary in this field. Thus, we have made continious investments in waste treatment and solvent recycling as well as implementing internal motivation systems, i.e., organising internal competitions amongst our employees to foster innovative solutions to waste disposal. We are also researching and developing our formulas to minimize the groundwater contamination.
Solar Energy Substitution
Solar energy is any type of energy generated by the sun. Solar energy has been harnessed directly or indirectly for human use for many years. Our 936 solar panels, mounted over 3.640 m2 area on the roof of our factory, harvest solar energy and convert it to average of 425 kWe of electricity that is sufficient to power the whole of our production facility. Why is this important? Because it is renewable and it does not emit greenhouse gases or toxic materials. Hence, we at Kurtsan fully power our production with solar energy, drastically limiting our greenhouse gas emissions, our carbon footprint and any other harmful impact fossil fuels have on the environment.
Cruelty-free Sourcing, R&D and Products
“Cruelty-free” simply means that a product and its ingredients weren’t tested on animals. In our beauty&personel care category, we commit that that neither we nor our ingredient suppliers conduct, commission, or pay for any tests on animals for their ingredients, formulations, or finished products anywhere in the world. To champion this claim, we have been certified by the Swiss V-Label, an internationally recognized seal for products that are vegan and cruelty-free.
Vegan Sourcing & Products
By definition, vegan products contain no animal or animal-derived ingredients. Vegan beauty means the absence of animal ingredients, while cruelty-free refers to a product that doesn’t test on animals. We, at Kurtsan, source and produce Vegan products certified by V-Label, an internationally recognized seal for products that are vegan and cruelty-free.
Pay Equity
Pay equity is the notion that all employees, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or other status, should get comparable compensation for performing comparable job functions. Pay equity goes beyond simply being a tool for competition in the job market. It presents a chance to promote innovation, increase staff retention, promote employee engagement, uphold (or enhance) brand reputation, and, most importantly, have a positive social influence on the industry. Kurtsan fervently pledges to uphold pay equity at all echelons.
Good Manufacturing Practice
A method known as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is used to guarantee that goods are consistently manufactured and monitored in accordance with highest quality standards. It is designed to minimize manufacturing hazards that cannot be completely eliminated via testing the finished product. For both our pharmaceutical and cosmetics manufacturing, we have obtained and continuously renewed this certification which is a rarity in Turkey.
Occupational Health & Safety
The ISO 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Certification is an international standard that offers a framework to identify, regulate, and reduce the risks connected with health and safety in the workplace. We at Kurtsan have received and sustained this certification. By putting this standard into practice, we amplify the message to our constituencies that employee health and safety are top priorities at our company.
Food Safety Management
We have received the ISO 22000 family of International Standards, which specializes on food safety management. Food safety hazards can have major repercussions, and ISO's food safety management standards empower enterprises in identifying and managing food safety risks. It outlines the steps an organization must take to prove that it can manage risks to food safety in order to guarantee that products are safe.
Quality Management System
The standards for a quality management system particular to the medical device business are laid out in ISO 13485, Quality management systems requirements for regulatory purposes, a globally recognized standard. We strictly adhere to this standard's requirements and are certified to do so.
